Food for Health Transition Practice Studies
Nourish’s new series of Transition Practice Studies highlights the work of Canadian health care institutions innovating food culture and practice to advance the health and well-being of people and planet. The series shares lessons on emerging practice from organizations that acknowledge the fundamental role of food in patient and planetary health.
Each practice study showcases practical application of Nourish’s Food for Health levers. These levers are critical intervention points at the intersection of health care and food systems where small shifts in institutional beliefs and practice have the potential to ripple out into larger systems impacts in the fight against climate change, and to build health equity.
The Transition Practice Studies highlight successful health care interventions that teach us about how individual and institutional-level changes can contribute to systems-level transition to more desirable, equitable, and sustainable futures. They aren’t meant to be read as one-off, bounded “best practices” for readers to emulate. The stories should be read and understood together as a constellation of efforts that leverage health care assets and innovation in pursuit of health equity, reconciliation, and a sustainable climate: the large-scale systemic issues that connect to patient and population health, and that inspire our work at Nourish.
For these reasons, we reframe case studies as Practice Studies: stories to inspire more innovative practice in the effort to transition to more equitable, sustainable, and desirable futures. We look forward to hearing your feedback and ideas, and how they inspire your personal and organizational work.
